A Stalwart and Caucus member of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in Essien Udim Local Government Area, Engr. (Dr) Wisdom Patrick Enang, has commended Gov. Umo Bassey Eno immensely on his directives that the Transition Committee Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State should submit their scorecard for the last few months in office, to enable him evaluate their performance before the extension of their tenure by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, AKHA.

Dr. Enang gave the commendation on Friday, May 17, while speaking with newsmen on topical issues in the State.

The Adjunct Professor of the North Dakota University, USA, who equally applauded the diligence of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stressed that by this single act of scrutiny and evaluation of activities in the Local Government Councils, both the Governor and members of the AKHA Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs have displayed their desire and ingrained commitment for a better life for the rural dwellers in the State.

He emphasized that governance in the State, going by the unfolding scenario, was no longer treated with kid gloves and levity but simply redefined, adding that it was not good enough to just appoint loyalists and supporters into positions of authority and responsibilities without vetting their capacities and performance towards good governance in line with the ARISE Agenda, or holding them accountable.

He particularly expressed joy over Gov. Umo Eno's modus operandi, describing it as a complete redefinition of governance in tandem with global standard. He further hailed the Governor's avowed determination to see governance and development massively taken to the rural areas where it is most needed.

Dr. Enang who consults for numerous local and international energy companies, maintained that Gov. Umo Eno's commitment for accountability and utmost service delivery was top-notch, expressing optimism that this will enable effective and more robust planning for the next phase of governance.

“The verifiable achievements recorded by the Heads of Councils in their respective local government areas, as witnessed by the House Committee members and reported to the Governor through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, will serve as a rudder for decision making by both the Governor and the House of Assembly Committee.”

The Akwa Ibom born, British trained Chartered Engineer who is fully registered with, and accredited by the British Engineering Council, BEC, enjoined the Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung led Committee to not trifle with the exercise but to carry it out holistically with the fear of God, love for the people and the need to bequeath something to posterity, saying that history and providence will reward them should they abide by this plea.

The astute scholar equally discouraged the man-know-man approach often employed in exercises of this nature, as this according to him, will not augur well for our State and people.

Speaking further, the Fellow of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (FNISafetyE) established a nexus between communal development on a global scale, and the capacity and uprightness of those in power, assuring that the reverse cannot be the case in Akwa Ibom.

While thanking the Governor for putting competence and value over political sentiments, the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Czar charged the Local Government Chairmen to also extend the quest for accountability to working members of their various councils, even as he categorically stated that all public servants, both appointed and elected, are ultimately accountable to the people of Akwa Ibom State and God.

Known for his massive and sustained advocacy for the adoption of a value-driven approach to leadership and governance, Dr. Wisdom Enang assured that this kind of rigorous assessment will discourage laxity and impropriety from public office holders, in addition to compelling would-be public servants to gird their joins and fasten their belts for good performance, once called to serve.

Dr. Enang who is a staunch supporter of Gov. Umo Eno and a die-hard believer in his ARISE Agenda, urged Akwa Ibom people to unflinchingly support the Governor in his poised efforts and avowed determination to actualize his electoral blueprint as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, stressing that remaining aloof with the “nsimbeghe” attitude was not an option, if the Akwa Ibom of our dream must be achieved.
